Thomas Meyer zur Capellen
Thomas Meyer zur Capellen, Textile Designer, had been a lecturer for textile engineering in
the Design department of the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg (HAW) since 1982.
Prior to that, he worked as a studio manager in the textile sector and also as a freelance
textile designer, focussing mainly on print and jacquard development. Since 1989,
Thomas Meyer zur Capellen had worked as a full-time lecturer and since 2006 as a
professor for textile engineering at the AMD Academy for Fashion and Design in Hamburg.
In 1996 he published his comprehensive textile reference book “Encyclopaedia of Fabrics”.
The fourth edition was published in 2012. Thomas Meyer zur Capellen had also been giving
successful seminars at large textile companies for over 25 years.
All of a sudden, very surprisingly, Thomas Meyer Capellen passed away in the middle of March 2017
and leaves a great gap as a special personality in the professional world of textile.
